Minor League Profile #9 Blake Wood

Blake was #10 on this list after 2008 and went all the way down to 24 in the original October ranking. Now, he is a RP a move that did not surprise several of us and he is maximizing his talent out of the pen. He throws hard and has 2 quality pitches (including a power curve/slurve pitch) . . He was a #3 pick out of Georgia Tech and is going to be 24 at the start of next season (he turns 25 in August) He will see big league time in 2010 and might even break camp with them. The combination of his 95 heat and power slurve will be enough to help him become a succesful middle reliever in the major leagues.

I assume he has plenty of options left? Figure that might push him to AAA to start the season with guys like Osuna, Parrish, Thompson, Rupe…unable to be optioned without passing through waivers.

I think Wood and Rosa will be at Omaha…that is 2 very good arms to relief a long with some other talented arms (I still love Disco) and u might see Hartsock, Swaggerty, Coleman et al at some point
I think Wood has more upside than Rosa btw

I forgot about Louis Coleman. Did he not get an invite to ML camp? Do you think he starts in AA or AAA? I’d love to see him up close if they start him in NWA.

He did not get an invite…but he is well regarded and considered a fast riser

Is Coleman actually a sidearmer or just nearly so? That would be great to have him, disco, and some flamethrowers in the pen.

He is not a side armer…he actually has some velocity…so he is not a soft tosser…He will be at AA to start out I think
His prospect report is up next after Kila gets some more conversation
