Minor League Profile Brandon Sisk

When you select a top 40 prospect list for any organization it is a lot like choosing a tourney bracket for March madness. There is no way you can get it right. In the late 70′s Dan Quisenberry was putting up video game numbers in the minor leagues but was not widely considered as a big time prospect. So much so, that Jamie Quirk told me last season they had no idea who he was when he came up to the big leagues. Until no one could hit him you just could not believe it.

Brandon Sisk quite simply is walking lesson in never giving up. He pitched collegiately at Azusa Pacific and after his career was done he moved to Sacramento and got work for his cousin in construction. He had met his future wife in college and told her he was not done with the game so he went to try out for a new league starting in Dallas. He prepared himself for this tryout by going to a local school and throwing by himself against a back stop. He did this after a 13 hour work day (and I think I don’t have enough time) He flew to Dallas and was selected in the 1st round of the league draft. The league was called the continental baseball league and the team was called the Toros. He pitched very well his first season but no major league organizations called. He was ready to give up when his Toros manager called and convinced him to keep going even if it wasn’t with the Toros. He went back to the Toros and on the 4th of July he signed a deal with the Kansas City Royals.

Now, let me drop you some statistics….6-7 with a 1.75 e.r.a in 143 ip with 182 k’s and 52 walks. He has also given up only 4 home runs. He was also named the pitcher of the year for Wilmington in 2009.

Why isn’t he in the top 40? Just remember that little mustached submariner in the 70′s they eventually called Quiz and tell me this guy can’t make it.

The 24 year old will be the closer for the Northwest Arkansas Naturals this season and with that club he will have plenty of chances to shine in the Texas League.
