Any talk of promoting Orlando to Omaha this season?
Does anyone know why Clint Robinson hasn’t been playing?
Who would have thought Greg Holland would be GMDM’s 1st draft pick/Intl FA to make the Big Team….
Can they please get Crow out of AA!!!!!!!!!!
CRob has some sort of foot issue, he’s day-to-day.
Thanks enhog! Where did you learn this??
As a Royals fan this got me excited so thought it might get you excited too!

Any idea on where Cuthbert will start the season next year? I don’t know how many 17 year old kids can put up the line he is putting up right now in Idaho Falls, if he were born here he would be entering his senior year of high school this August not tearing up Rookie Ball.
Hope the Royals have learned their lesson on pitchers who sit out a year. Hochevar and Crow both have had command problems.
Big D
many, myself included thought Crow would be a good reliever and I still believe he ends up there..
If Crow projects to be a reliever and he always has, then I am glad we took him over Grant Green and Mike Trout
ben, don’t make me cry. i have nightmares of this….
i cry myself to sleep when i think of this. my stomach is turning…looks like lunch is out for me today.
thanks.
Was there a worst line in all of pro ball that Tyler Sample’s performance last night?
Cuthbert’s big night is remarkable. And he had 2BB.
What is the deal with Aaron Crow – his lack of control this late in the season is not good. They can only use the “he took off a year” for so long.
The Royals minor league report this week said that Dwyer left his last game with a “minor injury.” Any clue what it is?
Greg,
Reliever…really…wow…when do they make that transition?
Have you heard anything else on challenging Crow by throwing him to the wolves in AAA? Has Crow’s Major League contract forced the Royals to rush his developmental time table?
I didn’t like the Crow pick last yr, I wanted Shelby Miller or Jared Mitchell(injured), but I thought Crow was a starter at least.
Kyle- at least with our farm system we were not hanging the future of the franchise on Crow. Think Lamb, Dwyer, Montgomery, Duffy, D-rob, Kila, Colon, Hosmer, and Moose and go enjoy some lunch. Maybe a gyro, since you will be thinking about Lamb?
ben, that makes me feel better. but could you imagine where we’d be if we had G.Green at SS and C.Colon at 2b? we’d be set for years!!!
worst pick under DM era.
Grant Green sucks. get over it.
seriously. looking back in hindsight at draft picks like that is the dumbest exercise out there. every team has f’d up in the draft……in hindsight.
Keith,
I agree that Grant Green sucks & was glad we didn’t make that pick. Last I looked he wasn’t doing that great anyway so i’m not sure why there is spilt milk over GG.
Also its not hindsight if you were hoping for a different outcome prior its called foresight! Have you ever critized a FA signing or trade, its no different disagreeing about a draft pick…
agreed, hindsight is always 20-20. but i remember at the time (which is NOT hindsight) that i wanted the SS. then we pick Crow. couldn’t have made a worse decision (at this time). now, he could turn out just fine…not the only pitcher to struggle his first year. i’m not that worried…yet.
just wanted the SS in a bad way. i’m sure Green would be better than any SS we have in our system…save Colon. i still think colon will be a star 2B for years.
need that rangy shortstop. i see that Tim Beckham (tb ray) is struggling ….237 avg. next years draft doesn’t have anything for SS….incredibily strong on pitching and has some good OFs. a few inparticular i like.
OT – what are the chances that the Royals make a trade with BoSox….for CF-J.Ellsbury for Farnsworth and Guillen/Ankiel/Bloomy ????
It is too early to hate the Crow pick. On other notes though, it is not too early to critize picks from 2006 and before. We know now that, there were better picks than Hochevar, Butler, Gordon, and so on. We hope there were no better picks than Moustakas, Hosmer, and Crow.
Get one of Dyson, Lough, or Parraz up to the big leagues, so we can see what Drob, Orlando, et al can offer in AAA, and so on.
The general rule is if you didn’t critize the pick/signing/trade @ the time it was made then you can never critize the pick/signing/trade there after. ie…I didn’t follow the 2007 & 2008 draft so I will never critize us drafting Moose or Hos, but I will critque there performance now & so on.
in general, i’m throughly impressed with what Moore has done with only 3 drafts. turned the farm system from junk into the top 3 in baseball. a few pick changes here and there and we would have the best.
the Crow pick really, really pissed me off. there were a handful of other players that i would have been happy with. oh well, still too early to tell. i think Crow will be a good MLB pitcher, but his inconsistency will hurt him.
i would love to see D-Rob and Orlando in AAA.
is there a way we can watch these Minor league games?
Off topic here… I was just thinking about how the Burlington Bees suck really bad and have very few in prospects on their roster. But next year, I can see them as having some of the most exciting prospects in the system. Espinal and Cuthbert are at Idaho Falls, and could end up there next season. Sample looks like he’ll still be there. Then, we’ll see if some of the 2010 draft guys break out. And who knows, maybe some of those guys in Surprise will make a case for themselves too. Just a thought.
By the way, Kevin David (out of Oklahoma State I think) is really doing well. I think he deserves a promotion to Low-A perhaps.
chris,
agreed. Low A could be very exciting as well. especially if the ROyals make some trades in the offseason. i could really see Butler on the block…or Kila. you know Soria will be dangling out there. and the longer we go with a mediocre team, the better the chances are that Grienke could as well.
IMO, i’d rather keep Soria and Grienke. trade Butler. i know the Cubs want Kila pretty bad.
get us a top prospect CF/RF and a shortstop. we could get a good pitcher and position player for Butler. throw some prospects in there with him.
royals baseball is very exciting right now (as long as you aren’t watching the Kansas City Royals)….
Chris H,
U are forgetting the Arkansas Hammer Murry Watts!
Kyle 11,
How did you know the Cubs want Kila preaty bad???… Also Burlington Bees are Low A. Chris H was referring to them & I assume you were replying on his post…
PREGNANT ROLLERSKATE–
Yeah, I forgot about him. My bad.
Also, http://www.royalsreview.com/2010/7/30/1596280/cubs-blogger-advocates-trading-for
You were right about my post. Low-A was what I was talking about.
from Schaum: Appreciate the post but I have never heard of the Cubs having any interest in Kila…and I have some really solid contacts in Chi-town
Chris H,
I read that earlier, but its a blogger that’s like one of us saying we should trade for Montero…its not a Cubs official.
Cubs fans at least. i found a blog. the dude was drooling over Kila. said right now, he’s a much better hitter than our current 1B. kind of think the dude was out of his mind….
….but thought it was interesting, nonetheless….
greg,
have you heard anybody inquire about Kila? i don’t really understand this huge cloud around him….its like he has a disease. really odd.
would the ROyals ever consider trading Butler and allowing Kila to man 1B for the time being….at least until Hosmer gets the call??
from Schaum: No I haven’t and there is a reason the Royals have not given Kila the opportunity…I might not agree with that reason but no way they trade Butler to put Kila at 1B
I was just posting that link so that people could see where the rumors were coming from. Most people think that Cubs blogger is crazy.
kyle 11–I know you addressed your question to Greg, but my opinion is that Royals should not trade Butler. I’d wait to see if his HR power ever shows up. I’d prefer Kila at DH.
FYI: Greg I figured out the answer to my question on who was going to take the 25th spot on the Wilm active roster.
Adrian Ortiz is back in Wilmington!!
Now its a matter of whose spot Pimentel & May will take on their respective teams.
Adrian Ortiz is back in Wilmington!!
what do you mean, rollerskate? Ortiz has been there the entire season. or did he go to the international games?
chris,
agreed with keeping butler. but i really don’t see him improving his HR total much. typically that comes once a player has matured and gained some weight. hopefully butler won’t gain more weight. he needs to cut back on the cupcakes and go with beef-jerky or protein shakes instead. a slimmer more muscled butler will be much more valuable. i could see the royals trading him before his arbitration kicks in…
greg. what is the reason they don’t play him? i mean, shit, at least give him a chance to prove you right or wrong. if he hit .320/.400 w 10 HR 30 RBi for the remainder of 2010, i’m sure he’d bring some buyers….
From Schaum: A lot of guys hit well in the minors and especially AAA…look at Chris Davis. Some scouts have given him the kiss of “slider speed swing” death…which is a label u don’t want
Kyle 11,
Ortiz went to the Caribean Games. Ortiz was off to a good start again in Wilm & needs to be in AA. He had a horrible 08, but he has rebounded.
Also, a man gets his “Man Strenght” between ages 28-32 so Butler is clearly aways from reaching his full potiental in the power department!!
Don’t get me wrong, I’d like to see Butler muscle up a little bit. But I think Butler developing HR power is not dependent on his body, but rather on his approach. He obviously has a powerful enough swing, but he needs to find a way to hit more fly balls. His HR/FB% is down this year, but that could be fluky. Actually, since I went to look at his batted ball stats, it looks like his LD% is pretty weak. But my argument is still good I think since his GB% is so high (consistently around 47% over his career). He obviously has not made any adjustments there. Get the ball in the air Billy!
I meant Ortiz had a horrible 09. His 08 season was great.
Chris H, I agree w/ you on Butler turning over on the the ball & driving it into the ground. I have been following his %s as well bc my perception was Billy sure is hitting a lot of grounders. Also it is leading to his high amount of GIDP as well.
PREGNANT ROLLERSKATE–Interestingly, Billy’s problem doesn’t seem to be trying to pull everything. At least, I haven’t checked, but my perception is that Billy uses the middle and right side of the field fairly frequently. So I don’t get it.
Chris H,
I agree Billy uses all fields that is one of the skills I luv about him as a pure hitter. I would like to see a spray chart from 09 compared to 10. I bet he is pulling more this yr, but nethertheless he’s not getting the ball in the air as much.
