Chris Sale is a tall (6’6) lean(172) lefty from mid major Florida Gulf Coast University. He was drafted by the Rockies out of high school but was not recognized as an elite type talent until after his freshman year (a year in which he pitched in 20 of 21 games as a RP going 2-0 with a 3.47 e.r.a in 36 IP with 43k’s and 10 bb’s)
He pitched very well for his summer team and began to attract more attention. Entering his sophomore season he began to shoot up draft boards going 7-4 with a 2.72 e.r.a in 89 Ip with 104 k’s and 27 bb’s. Than he went to the Cape and won the top pitcher award in the wood bat league by going 4-2 with 57 k’s 9 bb’s in 55 ip with a 1.47 e.r.a.
Described as a extremely humble young man, Chris brandishes a 89-93 fastball with a nice change and solid slider. Chris will be a first round pick in 2010 and his ability to throw strikes should not be overlooked.
